Led by Jeep, Chrysler sales soar in December, leading to possible biggest volume year ever.

2015 ended with a rousing finish.

During December, Chrysler's U.S. sales increased for the 69th consecutive month as the company's Jeep brand rocketed amid surging demand for sport-utility vehicles and crossovers.

Full-year sales for Fiat Chrysler rose 7% to 2.2 million units, capping what could be the biggest year ever for the auto industry as measured by volume, reflecting a flourishing market for new vehicles. Customers are flocking to SUVs and crossovers as style preferences shift and rock-bottom gasoline prices accelerate demand.

Jeep sales ballooned 42% in December, compared to a year earlier, in the brand's biggest month ever. That included growth of 36% for the Cherokee SUV and 22% for the Grand Cherokee SUV.

Jeep sold 8,957 units of the new compact crossover Renegade, making it Fiat Chrysler’s seventh most popular vehicle in the U.S.

Fiat Chrysler sales rose 13% in December compared to a year earlier, with 193,261 units sold. The company got a boost from incentives, which increased 11.4% over the previous December.

For the month, Dodge brand sales rose 6%, and Ram truck brand sales rose 4%.
